Abigail was sent to the undertaker so that she was properly embalmed. Vincent remained in his study and never left. He had sleepless nights and lack of motivation to do much of anything. The Earl's mind was else where.

It was something the young woman had never been through and something she couldn’t deal with. The worries and sadness overwhelmed her, and now, she was scared she would also lose the child she was carrying. But she couldn’t help it. Refusing to eat or sleep, she tried to deal with the preparations for the funeral and the normal life. She wanted to die, to join her little daughter, but she knew she couldn’t. She was needed here…

With her hands trembling, body weak, she took a cup of strong tea and went to the study.

"Vincent…" she called weakly. She hadn’t seen him since Abigail’s death, and now, she was afraid to look into his eyes.

"You will be just fine. And so will they." His heart sunk with the thought the newcomer never getting to meet his or her older sister. Abigail,…never got the news. Vincent wanted to be strong but he couldn’t. He still needed time to mourn.

Mei-Rin’s hands found Vincent’s and gave them a rather strong squeeze. They both needed time. They needed strength. “I’ll see the doctor as soon as I can, though. I cannot risk another life,” she whispered. As she thought of the moment when Abigail had shown her the doll… she had been going to tell her about the ‘new companion’, she had started the subject but then… her eyes filled up with tears.

Her cheeks were wet again and he felt it. “Mei,…” he called softly to comfort her. “Let’s think about something else shall we?….what about the color to the nursery? Or….maybe the new amount of supplies we will be getting.”

"I’d dare say you own me already, my dear," Mei-Rin smiled lightly at the sight of Vincent before her eyes.

"You know I am not the nicest of Earls." He whispered centimeters away from her neck. He places his lips on her once again, then starts tickling her waist.

Mei-Rin wanted to tell him that to her, he was always the nicest, but she didn’t manage to. Letting out a squeal, she curled up. Being a terribly ticklish person, that was enough to take her breath away. “Vincent!” she laughed.

He pulls her aside and holds her with one arm. Then tickles her with the other. “What was that? I could not hear you~~~!”

"I’d dare say you own me already, my dear," Mei-Rin smiled lightly at the sight of Vincent before her eyes.

"I thought you weren’t going to be independent. But look how it turned out." He then kissed her cheek an a little down her neck.

Purring quietly, Mei-Rin tilted her head to the side, half-closing her eyes. “That was a rather cruel method to find it out, you know,” she teased.

"How far along are you? It could be too early to tell, however, it doesn’t mean we can’t to take measures to keep the young one healthy." He rubbed her arm.

"It’s the beginning of the fourth month," said Mei-Rin, looking down at her belly. "I thought I’d see the bump by now, but last time the doctor said it’s alright… that one can notice it even in five or sixth month… so I hope it’s like this," she added, trying to smile, but failing.

He hugs her tightly in return. “I try not to think about it. As lucky as I did to have you as my maid then, I feel much more fulfilled to have you as my wife now. And I, honored to be your husband.”

"I can’t help it but remember every now and then the moments when you were teasing me. When you tested me… you made me confess to you, over and over again…" Mei-Rin’s smile grew even wider. "I really thought you couldn’t love me."

He stopped rubbing his fingers through her hair and looked at her direction. “What exactly are you worried about? Not to say that I don’t feel the same, but maybe it’s for a different reason.”

"My stomach has been aching as of late," answered Mei-Rin. "It could be just because of stress and all the feelings… but I need to know the little one’s alright. I cannot lose them, too." Her hand rested under her heart. One would not even notice there was a life hidden there, but she wanted it to grow. To be the one she could be proud of.

The smiled back. “I own you, Mei Rin.” He chuckled and held her hands. He then pulled her a bit closer and kisses her on her hair.

The smile on her face widened and she wrapped her arms around Vincent. “I think, though, we’ve come back to how it all started. My Master,” she chuckled.

He hugs her tightly in return. “I try not to think about it. As lucky as I did to have you as my maid then, I feel much more fulfilled to have you as my wife now. And I, honored to be your husband.”
